Intraclub Meet Info

Hey Gators!

Next week, we have two meets, Intraclub Club meet is Tuesday and the Springhill meet is Thursday. PRACTICE WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, AND FRIDAY NEXT WEEK. There will be no practice Thursday due to the Springhill Meet. We will have more info on the Springhill meet soon, but we are ready to prepare for the Intraclub meet. Intraclub meet is at our club with only members of our team. This is a great way to introduce new swimmers to the flow of a meet as well as give every swimmer a starting time. Encourage your swimmer to compete against their own times as the season progresses and to worry less about where they place in their events. I am going to provide a detailed explanation of meet procedures at the end of this message for new families. To ensure that every meet runs smoothly, a Google form registration link will be provided. Only swimmers that register for the meet will be entered. Please pay careful attention to the date and time the form should be completed by as this will change depending on the opposing team's preferences. We will do our best to get late swimmers in, but it inconveniences the opposing team to enter late swimmers so let's try to be punctual. :)

****The Google form for Intraclub can be found here. Please complete this form by Monday at noon. Warmups for Intraclub will begin at 5:00 and the meet will begin at 5:30. Guppies will swim before the meet begins. GUPPIES DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER TO SWIM. See meet procedures at the bottom for more details.

We will also need volunteers for every meet. I will include a description for all jobs below with the meet procedures. We use Sign Up Genius to organize volunteers. All families are asked to work at least two meets. We cannot run meets without volunteers so we thank you in advance for your help with this.

*****The link to register for Intraclub can be found here.

Kids Night will be held June 6th!!!! Register using this link.

If you are not receiving messages from Remind, please join by texting @gc98f9 to 81010. I am teaching this summer and it is easier for me to respond by text than to regularly check another email account.

Remember, there is more info after the pic about meet procedures and volunteers.

MEET PROCEDURES

Warmups will be held before the meet begins. We will be given a warm up time and meet start by the host team so these will vary. We will not know details until we hear from the host team and I will get that to you ASAP.

After warmups from all teams are completed, guppies will "race". This involves jumping in and "swimming" the length of the pool with an older helper in the lane to assist. It is not a requirement. Guppies do not need to register for the meet to swim but should be there before the meet start time to participate. At the end of the season, the Country Club of Mobile will host a meet for guppies swimmers only. More details to come.

When the actual meet begins, swimmers will be called to Clerk of Course by events to line up. Clerk of course is an area designated to line up swimmers in order of their events/heats so that the meet can progress as quickly as possible. A heat sheet will be digitally provided via Remind and posted on the website (under the heat sheet/results tab) before each meet. Please check your swimmers' events so that they are aware of what event/heat # they are entered into. This will help them when they are called to Clerk of Course for their events. If swimmers miss their event, there is no makeup so encourage them to pay attention to what is happening in Clerk of Course.

Swimmers may leave when they have completed all of their events. Each team is different about awarding ribbons so we will do our best to get those to you as soon as we get them. It normally takes a few days. I will post the results as promptly as I can on the website (under the heat sheet/results tab).

VOLUNTEERS

We will need volunteers in the following spots, depending on what the home team requires:

TIMERS- We will need timers at every meet. You will be paired with another volunteer and assigned a lane. The exact procedure will vary at each pool depending on what type of equipment they use. Stopwatches will be used to record the time and timers will have a clipboard to record the final time. There are two people/methods recording each swimmer so do not be intimidated. It is easy.

HEAD TIMER- A head timer is required as a backup to timer error or a malfunctioning stopwatch. The head timer has two stopwatches and starts them at the beginning of each race but is not assigned a lane. They are just a backup and will be signaled by a timer if they need to switch stopwatches or record the time for their lane.

CLERK OF COURSE- These volunteers work in the designated clerk of course area to line swimmers up into the correct events/heats. They read names off the heat sheet and make sure each swimmer is lined up in the correct order according to the lane they have been assigned.

RUNNERS- Runners, if needed, take timing sheets and disqualification slips to the timers table as needed.

CONCESSIONS- At home meets, we will sell concessions and will need volunteers to do so.

STROKE JUDGE- Stroke judges watch each race and disqualify swimmers who use incorrect technique for the stroke in progress. If you are interested in this, please let me know as there is some training involved.
